[SMCARA] New Ham Net

Allen,

If you would like to use the Tuesday night time slot on the 64 repeater or
35 as a backup that would be fine by me, Dwayne WD8OYG has us reserved on
the Prince Frederick machine for the club to use too. If you would like an
opportunity to run the net for the new hams please just let me know, I'd be
willing to act as a backup for you and I am sure the regular folks who
normally check into the net would love to share some hint and tips with
anyone just getting started. If you think the time might be an issue for
some maybe a new Tech net could start around 7:30 or 8pm with the regular
net to follow and any folks with questions could hang around and hopefully
get them answered.

Just some thoughts and I think it is a GREAT idea to get everyone more
involved.

The 146.895 could certainly be used as the hosting repeater... But I don't
think that the newer hams would be able to acces the repeater because the
radios they got after passing the test are handhelds and only put out 5W (I
tried to with my VX-7 and barely made it).
So unless we teach them how to build a beam or they get a bigger rig, I
think a lot of them wouldn't be able to participate in the activity. As far
as a net control op goes, if no one else would like to, I guess I could. The
net would not just be for the newer hams but for anyone who has a question
about any aspect of amatuer radio. I would also like to start a net for any
one who has an HF setup on 10 or 12 meters if there is anyone interested. An
off the subject question, but does anyone do antenna modeling and would they
have any hits for a beginner?

Hi all,

The Wednesday night net on the 146.895 could certainly be used as an Elmer
Net.
We talked the other evening about starting a Tech. Net or Elmer Net and i
guess we are not the only ones to see a need.
We will just take questions and answers along with comments. I think we have
enough knowledgeable hams on the net to help out.

What you all think?

I was just thinking about the Tech class that just tested Saturday, We
should start a beginner/new ham net for those who
recently (or not so recently) got their license. We could use (with
permission of course) the PF (or maybe even 10m) repeater since it has quite
a wide coverage area.
Things that we could do are just getting them used to talking the on the
radio and with setting up a base station (antenna, procedures, courtesy on
the radio, and even with upgrading)? Just a thought.
