    2 weeks ago, I was at the "convenience center"  i.e. trash dump.  If you
have been there, you know many people put usable items on the ground next to
the fence for others to pick up.

    I picked up an ICOM IC-229H  (a 2meter mobile rig).   Not even sure if 
it works, but it was free.  (also a manual antenna tuner and packet radio
modem)

   The 229 needs a mic.  The original mic was an HM-56, or an optional HM-59
per the manual.

    A quick internet search shows any of the following will work (found on
E-ham.)

   Mic    Connector  Discription
HM-12  8 pin      Mic  ELECT
HM-14  8 pin      DTMF ELECT
HM-17  8 pin      SPKR/Mic ELECT, 1750HZ
HM-36  8 pin      SCNG Mic ELECT
HM-56A 8 pin      HAND Mic ELECT
SM-6   8 pin      DESK Mic ELECT
SM-8   8 pin      DESK Mic ELECT
SM-20  8 pin      ELECT

    Does anyone have one of these I can buy or borrow long enough to check
if it works?

    I am planning/hoping to be at the mtg tomorrow evening.
