Minutes of the St. Mary’s Amateur Radio Association meeting August 25,2011
Present: 27 members
and guests
The President, peter Butt, (WA3UMY) opened the meeting at
1936 hours. All officers were present.. Pete requested that all present give
their name and call sign or state their association with our meeting in a “round
the room sequence..
The Treasurer’s Report was given by Lee Jamison
(N8HTG). We have $2147.78 in the
Treasury. We have no outstanding
bills. The purchase of an HF antenna for
the emergency radio station located in the Museum is pending. The purchase has been delayed by the
uncertainty of the Museum’s ability to continue operation.
We discussed some upcoming events for SMCARA in which
members and friends may wish to participate.
These events include:
-Development of interactive displays for the Museum
-Installation of an emergency generator for the 04/64
repeater with auto-start
-Beam antenna installation working party at the Museum
-Swap and shop meeting in Octoberr.
-Outreach to new and perspective hams.
-Christmas dinner for our November – December meeting early
December 2011.
Other items discussed:
-The emergency band plan for 2 meters – use the repeater
input frequency (146.04 MHz) simplex mode.
-Virginia Beach
Ham Fest September 17, 2011
-Tuesday evening packet radio
-Disaster when lightning strikes –Pete (WA3UMY)
-HF antenna installation at Leonardtown Middle School
-Use of the repeater after some disaster when the cell phone
system is either down or jammed with calls. i.e. 9/11
-Immanent impact of hurricanes Isabel coming up the coast 8/27
and 8/28 on the power grid and flooding. Ray (call?) outlined special use
operating procedures.
The next meeting will be held on 22 September 2011 at 1930 hrs. at the Museum.
Meeting adjourned 2050 hrs.
