[SMCARA] Vanity Call Sign...

Hi Tom,

I vote for AB3IC...you have spent some years making that call known and
associating it to yourself. I think that the vanity program contributes to
loss of long term continuity in ham radio...and ultimately less chance of
keeping track of each other.

Example: I was at field day some years ago and I heard K5YAA/5 calling
CQFD. Had Jerry changed his call, since we were in Newfoundland together
(early to mid 1960's), I would have missed a chance to connect with a long
lost friend. I am still in contact with him and have re-connected him with
the great coast guard radioman, after whom his first child was named.

I also look at the contest stats and I can pick out several guys that I've
known along the way. If they were to change their call sign...they would
just be another entry in the results table. It's nice to look there and see
that they are still alive and kicking and active in amateur radio.

So...AB3IC, this is K3KLC...let's leave it that way.

Subject: [SMCARA] Vanity Call Sign...

Hey all,

I just put an application in for Tammy to get a vanity callsign - I'll
announce it here when its assigned. But I'm thinking about getting a vanity
call to get one of the shorter, extra class calls. I kind of like the one I
have - it rolls nicely off the tongue and is easy to send and receive in CW,
so this is not critical.

Here are the available "3 area" 2x1 calls (there are no 1x2's available).
Anyone see anything that fits me - any advice would be appreciated...
