[SMCARA] Field Day Rule Change

Per the Rules... (Paragraph 4.1.2)

Free VHF Station: Any Class A entry may also operate one additional
transmitter if it
operates exclusively on any band or combination of bands above 50 MHz
(VHF/UHF)
without changing its basic entry classification. This station does not
qualify for a 100-point
bonus as an additional transmitter. This station may be operated for the
clubs Field Day
period and all contacts count for QSO credit. It is operated using the
primary callsign and
exchange of the main Field Day group and is separate and distinct from the
GOTA station.

So - Yes, 6-meters would be doable and it wouldn't change our number of
transmitters.

While Pete, Dan, Steve, and I were doing some antenna maintenance last
Saturday, I saw a VHF beam laying on the ground, hidden in the trees. It
appeared to be a 2-meter beam (but I could be wrong - it was in the weeds),
and it also appears to be in pretty poor shape. Perhaps with some
refurbishment it might be useable. Some of the elements were bent, and it
looked like some of the plastic supports that hold the elements to the main
support were cracked or broken. I'm sure someone with a bit of mechanical
skill and some spare time (and a bit of elbow grease) might be able to make
it work.

Is 6M considered VHF in this case? If so it might be worth putting up a
six meter beam and with all the Icom 7Ks and 706s floating about, a rig
would be easy.

My green Army mast would handle a beam at about 20 feet. There would be
plenty of Armstrong rotators available! The club's beam was parked
behind the museum when last seen, so that is available.

Hi All, It looks like the rules this year allow a free VHF station and
you can score points with it.
