[SMCARA] SMCARA club meeting Thursday (27 August)!

Hi folks,

  It's that time again!  Please join us if you can for the August monthly
meeting of the St. Mary's County Amateur Radio Association (SMCARA)
which will be held this Thursday evening, 27 August, beginning at 7:30
PM at the Naval Air Museum in the conference room.  The museum is
located on Maryland Route 235 (Three Notch Road), on the right side of
the road, about 100 yards north of the Naval Air Station Gate #1 and
Pegg Road.

  We will have updates on the status of the 146.64 2-meter repeater
repairs; talk about the upcoming public service activities; and I plan
to provide a short update on the current state of fiber optic networking
in the United States (I recently attended a national research conference
in Nashville focused on networking technology advancements).  You all
will be amazed at what has been accomplished in just the last year by
major Internet networking companies like Verizon Business, Sprint, MCI,
etc.  We'll also talk about the state of network security and who the
hackers are and why they are targeting the Internet.

  I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow at the meeting to
reconnect and update each other on what we have done with ham radio this
past month.
