Hi to all,

Thanks to SMCARA and Southern Maryland Wireless and after more than a couple
of tries, I've final got the K3NHK-10 Winlink Station running. This is an
RMS Packet Station operation on a frequency of 145.030 simplex.

The folks at Winlink have been hard at work on new software. On Winlink
2000 side of the house they have setup four CMS's ( Central Message Servers)
in harden sites around the world to support the Winlink System. On our side
of the house there are two software programs. One, Paclink MP, the Client
software that interfaces with your e-mail program and sends and receives
email via Amateur Radio in the form of packets. It replaces Paclink AWG and
Paclink Postoffice and The Second is RMS Packet, it is the Server software,
it replaces TelPac. RMS stands for Radio Message Server and packet is the
method to the madness. It listens and receives and sends packets to the CMS,
Central Message Server through it's internet provider.

The idea is to have RMS Packet stations around the County to build a
emergency email network. Hopefully, a varied selection of service provides
will be used at each station. Example, one station has satellite service
another DSL someone else POTS. The more varied the providers the greater
the chance of connecting to the internet during an emergency.

For the ARES/RACES folks, please download the software and work with it
until you understand how it works. The K3NHK-10 RMS Packet station is a
24/7 station located at the Museum. Our radio network operates on 145.030
simplex. At this time we do not have emergency backup power for the station.
But can be used for training and practice. There are other RMS Packet
stations in the Tri-County Area. They operate on their own frequency. You
can find information about near by stations at the Winlink website at(
www.winlink.org ).

The software can be downloaded from the Yahoo Group:

 PaclinkMP (

%20Install.zip )

and Yahoo Group:

RMS Beta (

The software is not Beta, it was just released after months of beta testing
and is working well.

To use the station at the Museum just load PaclinkMP. If you would like to
be part of the network, then load RMS Packet (the second link). Once
installed, you do not have to run 24/7. But regular testing, like once a
month on the weekend would be great.
Then you will be ready to go on the air during the next emergency.

If you have questions or need help with installation, please contact me.
I'm not an expert, but I will try to help best I can.
