Got this from the ARRL MDC section manager WI3N.

"There is no FARFest this year. Many complications. Perhaps next year. FAR 
is sponsoring our ARRL MDC Section Digital Convention to be held Nov 11. We 
were going to try it on Sep 8 but too much to pull together in too short a 
time.

I heard this morning that the Gaithersburg Hamfest is cancelled and
will not be held this weekend. Can anyone confirm that? Apparently in
2005 the fairgrounds came under new ownership and the rent was rasied
so the fest was held elsewhere. Then in 2006 a deal was struck for
more reasonable rent but the fairgrounds spung an unannounced parking
fee on the attendees to make up the difference. It appears that things
have broken down at the last minute this year and I was planning to
attend. Hamfests are dying out due to internet, e-bay, etc. and if
true, this is bad news because G'burg was this area's big one and had
been held continously for nearly 50 years. Anyone know anything about
this?
