Hi Everyone,

Hope everybody had a great weekend.

Saturday I helped Dwayne reposition the 444.350 machine at the old EOC.
Larry and Mike Hasel picked up six of the Motorola consoles. That going to
be a great shack addition.

Saturday evening I checked into the MEPN. Al Nollmeyer, W3YVQ, MEPN Manager
asked the question why, with all the ham's, old and new that we have in the
state less and less people are checking into the net?

Well, I don't know the answer, but maybe because at the rapid pace that
people rush through the licensing process that they just don't know that
mush about ham radio.

So, for all you people out there with H.F. rigs, old and new alike please
check-in to the Maryland Emergency Phone Net. If you can check-in once or
twice a week, that's ok, but everyday would be great. The net is every
evening at 6pm on 3820. The web site is http://n3wke.home.comcast.net/MEPN/
, Check it out!

Don't be shy, when net control calls for stations with or with traffic,
that's your chance, key up and give you call and say "no traffic". Net
control will repeat your call and ask you to stand-by. Later, he'll call you
and ask for comments. Come back with something simple. That's it! Just two
things, if net control has a message in your local telephone calling area,
take the message. It's good practice, learn now, not during an emergency.
And the other thing, don't leave the net until net control secures the net
or if you're in a hurry, ask permission to the leave the net early.

Also, u see double u guys, there is a thing called the Maryland Slow Net,
the other MSN, it's an NTS training net for the Morse code people. Visit
their site at http://www.bdb.com/~msn/ . It's a 10 wpm net to start out and
you build your speed as you learn.

For people that are interested in learning CW, check-out this site, Code
Buddy Program - http://www.qsl.net/w9em/ .

Look forward to hearing you on the MEPN tonight at 6 pm.

Later,
