Folks,
It's January and time for the first meeting of the SMCARA for the New
Year... our 51st year as a club!
We will be meeting this coming Thursday evening, beginning at 7:30 PM, at
the Naval Air Museum by Gate 1 of the Naval Air Station. Please consider
coming out for an hour or so and let's discuss the upcoming changes to
Amateur Radio licensing. By now, most of you probably know that the FCC has
decided to eliminate the Morse code as a requirement for taking and
obtaining a ham license. This topic was hotly debated for a number of years
with pro's and con's detailed for all to discuss. Now, the debate is over.
In thirty days, things will change forever. Will there be an inrush of new
amateurs on the bands? Will we be ready to introduce them to a great hobby
and lead the way to increased activity on the bands and here in southern
Maryland? Come on out and let's figure out what things we can and should do
to make this a positive experience for all of us.
Also, the first ham fest of the year kicks off in Richmond next month.
Will you be going to see what neat items you can't live without? Click onto
our club web site at www.qsl.net/smcara to get complete information on the
Frost Fest, including times, prices, talk-in frequencies, etc.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the meeting this Thursday!
So don't forget... SMCARA meeting... Thursday, 25 January... 7:30 PM
See you there!
Vr, Pete (WA3UMY)
President, SMCARA
