The National Weather Service office in Sterling, Virginia will be
hosting an open house on April 29, 9-5, and April 30, 12-5. Everyone is
welcome, and there will be activities for all ages. Representatives
from county, state, and federal climatology, environmental, and
emergency management offices will host exhibits, activities and seminars
in a variety of topics.
Skywarn spotter courses will be held both days, at noon on Saturday, and
1 PM on Sunday. Online preregistration is required.
Special assistance is needed from the HAM community to make this event
successful. First, the National Capital Area SKYWARN Support Group will
be hosting a Special Event station for the duration of the event. Come
and operate, or bring a friend and get them on the air.
Additionally, the National Weather Service has requested our assistance
in performing logistical communication support as they bus event
attendees back and forth to the National Weather Service grounds and the
Dulles North Transit Center parking lot.
Please let Randy Sly, W4XJ at arrl.net know if you would be willing to
assist in either effort.
For more information on the open house, and to register to attend,
please go to weather.gov/Washington. Updated information will be posted
regularly.
