Folks,

  It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of long-time
SMCARA member Gordon Otis, KA3COO on Monday, 14 November.  Gordon
endured a lengthy battle with cancer which finally got the best of him.

  Gordon was an active member of the Navy MARS program and enjoyed his
participation in the amateur radio hobby, having erected a large tower
in his backyard and making many contacts with friends and family alike
via the radio.  His son, Richard (WB3LCS) always made sure that Gordon's
membership standing in the SMCARA was kept up to date and we certainly
enjoyed his moral support and participation over the years.  We will
really miss him!

  For those of you who would like to extend your sympathies to the Otis
family, visitation will be held on Thursday evening, November 17th at
the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown.
 Visitation hours will be 5-8 PM with a Masonic Service & prayers
beginning at 7 PM.

  A memorial service to Gordon's life will be held on Friday, 18 November
beginning at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Ascension, 21641 Great Mills
Road in Lexington Park.

  The burial ceremony will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in
St. Mary's City.
