Hi folks,

Well, I hate to sound like the fund raising crowd on public television but
it's that time of year again when we need to solicit your continued (or new)
support for the many popular St. Mary's County Amateur Radio Association
(SMCARA) facilities, programs and events including sponsorship of the oldest
(34 years!) amateur radio FM voice repeater in the southern Maryland area
(K3HKI), emergency radio communications capabilities and exercises, annual
'Field Day' setups, licensing courses and exam sessions, support for
bike-a-thons and marathons and much more.

All we are asking for is a contribution of just $20 to renew your
membership in the Association (add just $1.00 for each additional family
member). These funds will go a long way toward keeping the Amateur Radio
hobby in southern Maryland alive and well. The SMCARA is the oldest amateur
radio association in the area, having been formed in 1956... next year we
will be celebrating our 50th anniversary! This is a great time to join a
group with demonstrated staying power and support to Amateur Radio. If you
have a friend that might be interested in the hobby, I encourage you to
steer them our way and we'll do our best to help them get started.

Current projects being sponsored include the new Amateur Radio interactive
communications display at the Naval Air Museum in Lexington Park and the
upgrade of the 146.64 MHz 2-meter repeater system. We are active and moving
fast into the new millennium with a variety of programs and activities for
our members. Wouldn't you like to continue to help us?

Just send $20 to our club treasurer, Garner Hayden (W3SI) at the
Association mailing address: Post Office Box 186, Hollywood, Maryland 20636
along with a completed membership/renewal form. The forms are available on
the web in Microsoft Word format (http://www.qsl.net/smcara/mbr_form.rtf) or
in Adobe PDF format (http://www.qsl.net/smcara/mbr_form_jr.pdf).

Complete information about the club is available at our web site located
at http://www.qsl.net/smcara/ or you can come to one of our monthly meetings
at the Naval Air Museum and meet us in person (FOURTH THURSDAY of each month
at 7:30 PM in the museum meeting room).

I encourage your continued participation in our Association's activities
and events. Even if you can't come to every meeting, we still value your
financial help which permits us to keep the 2-meter repeater on the air and
support the many amateur radio activities throughout the year in our area.
YOU can make a difference!

If you have any comments or suggestions that you'd like to relay to me,
please feel free to call me at 301-862-2214 (home) or via e-mail at
petebutt at ameritel.net and I will be delighted to discuss them with you.

  Very sincerely,

  Pete Butt (WA3UMY)
President, St. Mary's County Amateur Radio Association
