Subject: Maryland State Senate Resolution in Support of Amateur Radio

To All Maryland Amateurs:

I share good news and an urgent appeal for your help with the important
Maryland State Senate Resolution in Support of Amateur Radio. Please
take a moment right now to make a difference in Amateur Radio by
responding with your QSL card. Every QSL card counts and time is of the
essence!

A very special thanks to the entire Amateur Radio team providing
testimony on January 26 to the Maryland Senate's Finance Committee in
support of Senate Joint Resolution 2, "Radio Amateurs - Commendation and
Encouragement" with special credit to Joe Krysztoforski , AJ3X, and Tom
Coates, N3IJ, for honchoing this effort.

Best regards,

Tom Abernethy, W3TOM

Newsflash from Tom Coates, N3IJ:

SJ2, "Radio Amateurs - Commendation and Encouragement," the bill that
passed the Maryland Senate Finance Committee today by unanimous vote, is
the springboard for other legislation in future years. These are the
members of the Finance Committee: Middleton, Astle, Della, Exum,
Gladden, Hafer, Hooper, Kelley, Klausmeier, Pipkin, Teitelbaum.

If one of them is your senator, please send them a thank you. See below
for how to do it.

The immediate vote is unprecedented, I'm told, and will speed up the
process. The Senate could vote Friday or Monday and the bill could be in
the House of Delegates next week, where it may not have such a good
reception. So we need to start now to build on the momentum and get our
delegates on board.

Every ham in Maryland needs to take out a QSL and a Sharpie and write
"Please support SJ2" on the QSL and sign it. Unless your senator is in
the list above - then say "Thanks for passing SJ2." If the QSL lacks a
street address (some have P.O.'s) write in the street address and put
the card in an envelope addressed to your state senator in Annapolis.
The envelope should have a return address. You can find the names and
Annapolis addresses on the web at http://mdelect.net/electedofficials.
Do the same thing with three more QSLs addressed to your delegates. Get
the Annapolis addresses from the same website, above.

I'm told that a thousand bills get introduced every session, and only a
hundred pass. We need every QSL possible, and all before Feb 1.

I'd appreciate it if you would bring this matter to the attention of as
many people as possible. Suggestions are welcome.
