Folks,

We are now getting down to the wire on needing to get the new Amateur Radio
display at the Naval Air Museum on-line. We have committed to have a
working display, along with a few folks to operate it and talk up ham radio,
by Labor Day weekend when Air Expo is on-going. We will be having a work
session at the museum this coming Thursday, 25 August, at 7:30 PM to get
some of the final items completed: Drilling a couple holes through the wall
to run the coax cables, dressing the cables down the I-beam, putting on
several connectors, installing the HF-380 transceiver in the operating
console and checking it out (operators?), voting on what signs we need to
get completed, locating a couple of easels to put pictures on, installing
the computer, DVD player and LCD display screens, and figuring out what else
we need to do.

We need as many of the SMCARA members to attend this Thursday's session as
possible. There is plenty to do, from helping hold the ladder to
volunteering to make a DVD or two for the video display. We need some of
you to bring basic tools (screwdrivers, solder guns, etc.) so we can get the
equipment mounted and put the connectors on. Pete (WA3UMY) will bring a
ladder and necessary drills to get the holes drilled through the wall to
route the coax. We will figure out what else needs to be done in real-time
and make decisions as to who may be able to get what. Perhaps the biggest
decision we can make is who is available for what periods of time to come to
the museum during Air Expo and help operate the station and talk to the
visitors.

So please come on out to the museum this week and help us get the display
more in shape... see you there. If you have any comments or suggestions
prior to the meeting, call me at 301-342-1354 (work) or 301-862-2214 (home).

  Vr, Pete, WA3UMY
      President, SMCARA
