Hi Walt,
I will be in WV this weekend helping my daughter prepare for a move. If that falls through I will be there for the work party.
Fortunately minimal tuning is needed for the GAP. It is a broadband antenna and the preset dimensions are good for all but 40 and 75. 75 is not adjustable, as it is set by the capacitor at the top of the antenna. The center frequency for 40 meters is set by adjusting the length of the square counterpoise wire. FYI when we installed the GAP at W3PQT, we used the suggested wire length and it needed no further adjustment. We can install the antenna in the support fixture on the ground and make preliminary VSWR checks with an analyzer. I will drop the instructions off at the museum with Toby.
As soon as we get the antenna up, we need to get the feed lines run from the roof to the operating position. This should not be to difficult as there are existing holes in the wall. Ren had mentioned installing a junction box with AD surge suppressors at the roof level and a ground wire down the outside of the building. I do not know where we stand on that aspect of the install.
Hey Pete! Did you ever find the panel for the HF-380?

SMCARA members and friends,
I would be happy to entertain another working party at the Museum next
Saturday 4/24/05 at 1000.
Toby has located seven cement blocks that we could use to hold down the
base that A.J. dropped off two weeks ago. We will need three to four
sacks of concrete mix to fill the holes and three eye bolts to put in
the middle of three of them to hold the guy ropes to stabilize the top
of the GAP antenna. The sacks of concrete mix weigh about 60 pounds each
which is more that I can handle at my advanced age. Transmission lines
and cable interconnection boxes could also be installed.
We need to also arrange for an antenna tuning party.
Please let me know of your availability for next Saturday.
Thanks all,
de W3GYT "Walt"
