Hello Folks,
You are cordially invited to come out on Thursday evening, 27 May at
7:30 PM to attend the May 2004 meeting of the St. Mary's County Amateur
Radio Association (SMCARA) which will be held at the Naval Air Museum in
Lexington Park.
We will be doing final planning for FIELD DAY 2004 and we would like
to have your participation! At this meeting, we will be demonstrating
the use of the computer logging system we plan to use to keep score of
the contacts. This is your chance to see how easy it is to keep track
of all those duplicate contacts!
I'd like to take a moment to apologize for not updating the SMCARA web
pages this month. I had a major computer operating system failure
caused by a massive 'spy-ware' attack on my computer (yes, I know that I
SHOULD have had the firewall activated... it's on-line now) and I was
forced to slick the hard drive and reload Windows XP Professional. In
the process, I inadvertently lost my WinFTP password for the web site
when all my e-mail went away. I've contacted QSL.NET to get the
password reset but that hasn't happened yet. Anyway, I hope to regain
access shortly and we will get back to regularly updating the site. In
the meantime, Bill Wright's grandson,
Jarred - KB3KYR, has volunteered to assist in the web site updating and
I fully intend to take him up on the offer. Stay tuned to see what
other skilled artisans can do in the electronic publishing world!
And I'd like to take another moment to congratulate SMCARA member J.R.
Smullen, WJ3R, on his recent retirement from a long career with the
Federal government. J.R. and his wife plan to move to Florida shortly
to enjoy the 'good life'. We'll all miss the morning commute
discussions on the .64 repeater.
See you at the meeting!
Vr, Pete, WA3UMY
President, SMCARA
