Hi Folks,
As most of you know the building and tower supporting the club repeater is scheduled for demolition as a beautification project (!) and
to make room for the Naval Air Museum that is several years down the road (standard military "hurry up and wait"!). In preparation for
that event, GEM has removed all the antennas from the tower at Bldg 105, thus rendering the repeater inop, as well as the HF stations.
Last week, Pete, Grant and I moved the repeater to WA3UMY's house in Lex Park until we can move to a new permanent site. The repeater
antenna is a bit lower (60 AGL vice 150 AGL on base), with less gain, so you may notice slightly degraded performance, but it is still
useable, as is the phone patch for outgoing calls. Reverse patch, etc are not available. Still 146.64, no PL required (if you have the ability
to do so, please deselect PL when using the repeater, it causes a bit of distortion on the repeated audio- still trying to figure out why the
controller is not stripping the PL).
The actual move of the MARS station (NNN0NGT/W3PQT/K3NAL) is TBA. We have started to disassemble all the equipment and are
preparing it for transport to the new site. Hopefully when we get keys and gain access to the new building, we can schedule a
working party and move all the stuff at once. As in the last move we plan to "thin out" our collection of treasures, as the space is
a bit smaller.
Once we get moved in, we will try to get a couple of HF antennas up, as well as a VHF/UHF vertical on the tower.
I will send out another email when we can set the date for the move party.
Thanks and 73 from Tom/W4OKW
