Folks,

Some opinions from the deep south. What do you think? Perhaps it would be
a good idea to let your section manager know.

AREA HAM'S EMAIL LIST

See the below emails for opinions regarding the ARRL's license
recommendations. I must admit that their recommendations caught me and
others completely by surprise. This indicates that the ARRL may be out of
touch with its membership.

The objection that most people have is to the ARRL's recommendation that all
Tech licensees be "given" the General license. That blows my mind. I
thought they would recommend combining the Novice and various Tech licenses
into a new beginner class license. The entry level Tech and Novice license
material is/should be much more alike/comparable than the non-entry level
General material. The ARRL is trying to sell the idea that the Tech
material and General material are alike/comparable, therefore the licenses
can be combined, which is absurd. They have cheapened the General license
that has always been the foundation of the entire licensing structure. I
can remember when there wasn't a Tech license, or an Advanced license, or an
Extra license, but I can't remember when there wasn't a General license or a
Novice license. I also disagree with Joel, the Tech license has been dumbed
down. Every school that I have attended thought it was cheating if you knew
in advance the questions that would appear on your test. The "old" study
material did NOT include the questions that would appear on your test;
thereby, requiring that you understand the concepts, theories, formulas,
etc. to solve problems rather than just memorizing the answers.

The problem was the Morse code requirement and the lack of HF privileges at
the entry level.. The ARRL's recommendation has solved a problem that
doesn't exist. Most people don't object to taking the General written exam.
In fact, in anticipation of a FCC ruling in January eliminating the code
requirement for the General license, I had about 30 people lined up to
attend a General License class scheduled for February. Now nobody wants to
take the course because the ARRL is going to "give" them the General License
and you can't blame them. When given the opportunity to make
recommendations to the FCC, the ARRL did nothing. Instead, the ARRL has
waited until January (the month that the FCC is to make it's decision on the
code issue) to come up with an entirely different recommendation.

This is unfortunate and not good for ham radio.

This is an open reply to Doug's email. Please read and form your own
opinion. Mine is set.

Hi Doug,

To heck with it, I am out. No more ARRL. I have had it. I have resigned as
ASM and will not renew my membership. It is time for a new organization
that is for ham radio, not CB ! I am all for starting a grass roots
organization that supports the true meaning of amateur radio. I will not
support this "money-Hungary" group that is headed up by David Sumner and
Joel Harrison. They are supposed to support the membership, which I feel if
the members voted, it would be a landslide election in favor of increasing
the regulations to become an amateur operator, not decreasing them.

Anyone out there for forming a new national organization? Amateur's
definitely need a new voice, because apparently, the ARRL is not
listening.... just doing what the hierarchy wants to do. To heck with them.

EX- Assistant ARRL Section Mgr. - MS

I am forwarding this to all my fellow amateurs that are on my mailing list.
I will not support the ARRL until they come to their senses. If the ARRL
gets this passed, ham radio is NO MORE. It will be CB City. 10-4 Good
Buddy.

Please go to www.arrl.org and look at the new proposal the ARRL has made
to the FCC to allow no-code operators on the HF bands. ARRL has recommended
that the doors to the HF bands be opened up with little more than it takes
to get on the so-called Citizen's Band.

I was an ARRL member for years and had applied for life membership a
number of years ago when at the direction of David Sumner, the ARRL decided
to lower the standards of Amateur Radio and let RIF RAFF from 27 mhz into
Amateur Radio with watered down requirements for license. Everyone knows it
was intended to swell the membership of ARRL, sell more "appliances" so the
Japanese manufacturers would buy more full page adds in the covers of QST.
More revenue from advertising meant more operating money to pay Sumner a
higher salary. David Sumner is an egotistical, self centered, parasite to
our hobby. He has never worked in his life and has lived with his mousy
little bespeckeled pin head in the Amateur Radio Trough. He has never held a
"real job" in "the real world". He is the single most detrimental and
dangerous threat to American Amateur Radio!!!!!!

I let my application for life membership lapse along with my membership
and subscription to QST because of the position David Sumner and ARRL had
taken to turn the Amateur Radio bands into "The Good Buddy Society of
Ignorant, Uncouth, Booger Pickin and Crotch Scratchin, Jerks".

The sad part is that I rejoined the Arrl in November 2003 just in time for
David Sumner to direct "The Directors" of the ARRL to shoot our hobby in the
foot "once again". This is most likey a "Gut Shot" and will probably result
in a slow and agonizing death for Amateur Radio.

David Sumner can't hide behind the skirt tails of the clodhopper
"directors" because we all know who DIRECTS the DIRECTORS. We know that the
directors are the fall guys of Sumner and that they are all wanna-be
Democrat Politicians who would sell their sister to get the a little
recognition and ego bolstering fantasies of being "leaders of men".

I am not going to cancel my membership at this time and leave our hobby to
the mercy of David Sumner and the "lacky boy" yes persons who have been
elected to the ARRL by Default. It is time that EVERY officer of the ARRL
down to the SCMs have opposition at the next elections to remove David
Sumner's puppets from all ARRL offices resulting in the removal of Sumner
from the ARRL and hopefully the hobby of Amateur Radio. I ask each of you to
actively recruit men and women with principle to be nominated to run for
every office as election time arises. I will contribute financially to the
campaigns of those who vow to fight to preserve the hobby and return to and
maintain the standards that existed when I was licensed in 1958.

Please send this email to every Amateur you know who is dedicated to
holding up the standards of our wonderful hobby. Please encourage them to
join the ARRL, qualify to vote, get nominated and lets' take the ARRL back
from those who are in it for personal gain, such as David Sumner, and those
small time ego maniacs who are elected and serve David Sumner.

Let's send men and women OF PRINCIPLE to Newington!!

GOD BLESS AMERICA and GOD SAVE AMATEUR RADIO!! But remember, God helps
those who help themselves and provides the strength and ability to do the
job. DO YOUR PART and resolve today to help save our hobby!! 73, John W.
