Ladies and gentlemen:

In light of the approach of Hurricane Isabel, Saint Mary's County
Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has requested [potential]
communications assistance from the amateur radio community in Saint
Mary's County. This assistance would take the form of operators and
their equipment [typically but not limited to VHF mobiles] who could
deploy to field locations [typically but not limited to mass care
shelters which may be activated in the county] to facilitate
intra-county communications and/or operators utilizing their home
stations to facilitate intra-county communications via VHF and
inter-county communications via VHF and HF [typically the Central Region
Net on the 147.105 MHz Davidsonville repeater and the Maryland Emergency
Phone Net on 3920 KHz]. As the extent of the effects of Hurricane
Isabel are yet to be known, so are the specific operator/station/time
requirements which may result.

The purpose of this email is to advise you of the potential need of your
services as communicators. It is not a mandate but a request.

Based on the foregoing, if you are inclined to assist in this effort,
which will primarily support recovery operations under the combined
aegis of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) and the
Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), kindly contact me as soon as
possible with the following information:

Name
Callsign
Email address
Work telephone number
Home telephone number
VHF/Deployable / VHF Home / HF Home

Responding to this email does not constitute a commitment but expresses
your interest to help when and if you are able i.e. your home and family
are safe and stable and you have the time and means to assist.

Any operations will be called on the 146.64 MHz Lexington Park repeater
so monitor that frequency as much as you can, before the storm and as
soon after the storm passes as possible. Additionally, as conditions
permit, we will utilize email and telephonic notifications as well.
Should the 146.64 repeater be unavailable for any reason, scan local
simplex frequencies i.e. 146.46, 146.49, 146.52, 146.55 and 146.58 MHZ
and other local repeaters for coordination. We will not set up net
operations on any repeater without permission from that machine's
administration.

Regards -
