Subject: 2003 Amish 100 Support
Folks - sorry for any duplication with the distribution. Dennis - please
forward to CARA distribution.
Just an early reminder of this year's Amish 100 bike event sponsored by
PACE. It is scheduled for Saturday September 27th, and again this year is
based at the College of Southern Maryland (Leonardtown Campus) with various
length routes and rest stops throughout the county. There are normally 3-4
rest stops.
Normally we as hams assist the sponsors with 'emergency' communications
assistance, with people located at the rest stops, at the base station, and
in SAG mobiles along the various routes.
Soni Gerlach and Greg Davis from PACE are eager for us to assist again, and
would like a tentative list of interested people by early September. As an
option, when you reply, pass on your shirt size since one of the 'rewards'
we get for assisting are free T-shirts of the event (nice shirts). Any help
is appreciated.
Please keep this in mind as one of the events we as a 'community' of hams
get together and help out for a good cause. There were also some instances
last year where cell phone (lack of) coverage was overcome by our VHF
utilization.
Any questions, feel free to contact me. PACE's page is www.bikepace.com.
I'll post directions to the College down the road.
Thanks, and keep your fingers crossed for the usual great weather.
Barry
