Hi Folks,

Just a quick note again regarding the upcoming support
needed for this Saturday morning (28 September) for the
Chesapeake Biological Laboratory-sponsored 'Solomons Biathlon'
bike and running race which runs from about 7 AM to roughly
11:30 AM over in Solomons.

The SMCARA was asked by CBL personnel if we could help
out by providing a few folks for Saturday morning to man
only two, non-moving checkpoints for this race: one at the
starting point for this bike/running race at the tent on the
front lawn of the CBL at the foot of Solomons Island where
it overlooks the Patuxent River towards the Naval Air Station.
The second location is at the entrance to the Calvert Cliffs
State Park by the bike corral as you enter the park. What
the CBL race organizers need is the ability to communicate
participant numbers and times back and forth between these
two locations.

We supported this event last year with about 5 folks and
it was a lot of fun and easy to do. I was reasonably sure
that we could get about the same number of folks again this
year to support this event. Seems like I was wrong... so
far, we only have two volunteers :(

The CBL folks are really counting on us to help them with
this event (which, by the way, runs rain or shine). We *could*
do this event with only two people but that is really a stretch
at this point. Is there any more of you out there that would
consider donating a couple hours of your time to assist in this
event? I know that everyone really wants to protect their weekends
but this is for a really good cause and it provides us with an
opportunity to showcase our radio communications skills to the
general public.

Even if you can't support the entire timeframe (from about
6:45 AM at the starting point at Solomons) until about 11:30 AM
when the entire event is over), we would be delighted to have
you come over for an hour or two and help spell the other *two*
folks who have volunteered so far. We anticipate operating on
the 146.64 MHz repeater, so anyone having a mobile 2-meter radio
in their vehicle or a handheld is welcome.

If you can help, call me at 301-862-2214 (home) or 301-342-1354
(work) or e-mail me at: [email protected]

You'll be helping out a very good cause and having a little
fun at the same time. Refreshments are provided (donuts, coffee,
drinks, etc.) at both ends... how can you turn down that!

Please consider helping us out. I'm hoping to here from you.

  Vr, Pete (WA3UMY)
