Folks,

I hope to see as many of you as possible at
our January meeting of the St. Mary's County Amateur
Radio Association (SMCARA) which will be held THIS
WEDNESDAY (new day for this month only), January 23rd,
beginning at 7:30 PM at the Lexington Park library
rear meeting room. Call me at 301-862-2214 if you
need directions in advance.

As I mentioned in a recent e-mail, we will be
hosting a talk and live demonstration of the new
Internet Repeater Linking Project (IRLP) linking
system that has been installed on the 443.05 MHz
repeater here in Lexington Park. The IRLP is a very
user-friendly way to link from your UHF hand-held or
mobile radio to any one of over 300 other repeater
systems world-wide with only a few keystrokes on
your touch-tone pad. We will be detailing the
evolution of the project, how we built the node here
in southern Maryland, how it works, what it sounds like,
and end up with demonstrations of this and other linking
systems currently available for your use. I believe
this will be a most informative meeting and a chance
for you to go away with everything you will need to
try it out for yourself!

We will be having refreshments (sodas, chips, etc.)
at this meeting. Just prior to the talk, we will be
having a very short (about 10 minutes) business meeting
to elect the new slate of officers for the new year.

Again, you won't want to miss this one! Hope to
see you on Wednesday evening.

  Vr, Pete (WA3UMY)
      President, SMCARA
