From colstonl at gmail.com Sat Dec 9 18:33:59 2017 From: colstonl at gmail.com (Lloyd Colston) Date: Sat, 9 Dec 2017 17:33:59 -0600 Subject: [Skywarn] Zello-based Skywarn Program Message-ID: LZK, TSA, and OUN are a number of offices with Skywarn volunteers establishing Zello acconts for Skywarn purposes. EVEN if one does not use it, establish an account as a place-holder. *The Zello Skywarn plan is a non-radio Zello based program for Skywarn spotters to communicate with one another and the civil authorities along with the ability to directly interface with the National Weather Service.* *The organizational plan is to assign a unique UserID that reflects what state and county the spotter is from. The user id naming convention is much like voip Hamsphere. The first number is the FIPS number for the county followed by the 2-letter state id followed by a unique sequentially assigned number. For example I live in Boone County, Arkansas so my USER ID would be 9AR001 seeing as I?m the first one to become a part of this system. Every user whether they be civil authorities or NWS personnel would have a unique ID that would be easily recognizable by the NWS during a severe weather outbreak. In fact, the NWS could communicate directly with individuals either in the channel or separate in private for further information.I?d like to see each NWS office take control of their associated channel and also maintain and run their own database down the line or assign that responsibility to a qualified ham.* https://www.facebook.com/groups/zelloskywarn/about/ is a Facebook group for the project. The VOIP Skywarn net has had a Zello group for a number of years. -- Lloyd Colston director Altus Emergency Management Altus, OK http://www.altusok.gov Phone: 580.481.2260 Fax: 580.482.4738 Pr?parate Ante malum.
