The intent of all this most certainly was not to hurt any one , embarrass anyone , belittle etc. but some have seen it as an insult  for me to even make the suggestion in the first place …it was most certainly just an idea passed along to those who may have a interest in what is going to happen next ..to what we have lost in Gary stepping down from his net that he has worked tirelessly in building and merely how we may replace such …if there are things in the works with something much different then by all means people say something …forgive me for stepping on toes or being out of my lane of travel on even bringing this even up in the first place ..

Text to speech processing is all I suggested ..and it lit a firestorm within the ranks …with some remarks I feel were an insult …even with a spam email I received stating I should take my idea elsewhere… enough is enough with this pettiness…as I withdraw my suggestion ..

If others have suggestions then run with it .

but let’s not get stuck and spinning our wheels .

Bruce,

True enough.  But different services have different rules.  Some are
issued family licenses, for example.  Some don't require a license at all.
Ours requires a test.

We have the freedom to do things with hardware that the other services
don't really have.  We can experiment.

But I don't think AI on the air is going to be a good thing.  That's going
to be too much like broadcasting which we're not supposed to do.  At least
when a person does a weather net he's taken a roll call and knows who he's
talking to.

This is just my ever so humble opinion.  Maybe The Commission won't care.
Who knows.

? Bruce,

In my ever so humble opinion ... The Commission wouldn't be all that
happy with an AI on the air on amateur frequencies.

Repeaters identify using a synthesized voice, but that's canned with a
limited vocabulary. It won't say something it should not.  An AI is going
to say whatever is on the script.

My question: How is doing a weather broadcast any different than
stations/clubs rebroadcasting the Amateur Radio Newsline broadcast on a
weekly basis? No interaction between amateurs, just a broadcast of a
recording, done all the time, every week, over hundreds of repeater systems
across the nation. AI is just another extension of how amateur radio can be
used provided it is used properly according to FCC rules and regs.

All,

Debate aside, something like this would have to go through technical team
and voted on among board members. Even if it was determined legal and a
vote were to go through for it, the tech team is swamped with other
critical projects that have to get done, and simply would not have time to
develop this.

If this is something someone is really passionate about, I would suggest
developing a solution on your own personal test AllStarLink node before
pitching your idea to the SkyHubLink board.

Thanks
Skyler

I didn?t mean to shut down the idea of it sounded like I did, I?m still
willing to try pending board vote. If someone can help:

-Need to TTS our weather script .txt file (which is generated with a
python script that Jon N5RR I think wrote

-convert them into chunks less than 3 minutes each
- convert to ULAW (raw header less 8KHz sample rate 16 bit)
-issue asterisk playback command sequentially, listen for key ups in
between, hold off until unkey. -Use asterisk event management subsystem for
detecting key ups to bash script

Shouldn?t be too bad tbh
