Greetings from your broadcast friends out on the Desert...
This is the BDR Newsletter 756, Volume 15, #28 for February 7, 2024
Here are some things you might want to know about:
EAS UPDATES FOR ALL!
Sage released their ver<https://www.thebdr.net/latest-eas-news/> 96.00 update this week<https://www.thebdr.net/latest-eas-news/>. It also contains the new certificate the FEMA will start using in April. If you do not have it, the FEMA IPAWS tests and alerts will not be accepted.
DASDEC offers a free download of the certificate on their support page. Gorman-Redlich also has the file on their support page.
PROMOTION ALERT
It is likely the most widely watched/listened sporting event of the year. The Superbowl. But, just in case your staff forgets, it is a copyright violation the NFL strictly enforces for a station to label promotion with the term superbowl. There was a guy who used superb owl and may have gotten away with it. But, be careful!
AUDIO ON THE GO
We all know the battle for space on the vehicle dashboard is getting more and more complicated - and ATSC3 is going to add to it. Listening numbers continue to favor broadcast radio, but there is definitely some changes going on - especially among the generation that does not know what "AM" is.
So this week, we are going to invite Paul Kriegler from the Telos Alliance to speak with us on the topic of Preparing Your Station's Processing and Content Strategy for the Connected Car - plus info on the latest updates on DTS Autostage.
As it has been every week for three years, 2 PM EST on Thursday / 11 AM PST. Come, join us, and learn something. Bring a friend.
The link request is at www.theBDR.net/TLG/<http://www.thebdr.net/TLG/> ... or subscribe to the youtube.com/thebdrnet channel.
THE BDR SPOTLIGHT
This month it is on the Davicom AXON product line<https://www.thebdr.net/bdr-spotlight/>. Take a look at this flexible interface.
LPFM PROGRESS
The FCC indicated its review shows more than 700 of the recent applications are "singletons."
GEO-TARGETING
The FCC seems ready to tackle this issue. Chairwoman Rosenworcel has decided to issue an NPRM to allow boosters to separate from the main program feed for a period each hour to "zonecast." There are supporters and detractors on this issue. More to come.
TOWER DOWN
It looks like we have a whole string of towers dropping this week, highlighting the need for regular inspection and maintenance. It is not only vandalism<https://www.thebdr.net/current-news-items/> to worry about.
DEEPFAKE SCAM
We have been hearing more and more about AI and how it can develop deepfakes that confuse people. Worth mentioning to your backroom folks? A recent example, where the process was used to build a "pretend" video meeting, caused one bookkeeper to send $25 million to <https://retailwire.com/tech-scammers-trick-finance-pro-into-25m-payout-with-deepfake/> scammers .<https://retailwire.com/tech-scammers-trick-finance-pro-into-25m-payout-with-deepfake/>
DST COMING
Can it be DST already? Just four weeks. Get ready.
FOR SALE
Someone is looking for transmitter/manufacturer logo items. And a BE AM-1A is available. Those and more can be found on the Buy/Sell Page<https://www.thebdr.net/buy-and-sell/>.
By the way, in case you have not seen it in a while, Dana's Daily Deals<https://www.thebdr.net/danas-deals/> now has a new button making it easier to see the deals and to access those deals instead of the long URL.
May we please recommend this fine company which supports the BDR - and you!

PLEASE INVITE A FRIEND
We sure hope you are finding the BDR and the Newsletter to be of value to you. If so, there are two things that you can do to ensure the BDR keeps pulsing along:
1. Invite a colleague or a friend to sign up for the Newsletter. Since it is only one-time-a-week, you will not be accused of flooding their in-boxes!
2. Anytime you deal with one of our sponsors, letting them know the BDR is important to you will make them happy - and ready to keep on supporting the BDR.
TELL US WHAT'S WHAT
There are so many areas into which we would like to expand, but it is feedback from you that helps us decided where to go first. Are you interested in a certain piece of gear or technology? Let us know. Even better, would you be willing to do a user report and share your experience?
- - -
We sure do appreciate you spending time with our Newsletter. And even more so when you recommend us to your colleagues and friends.

Now ... some extra stuff .. some important ... some just interesting.
MORE DETAIL HERE
Those you who read the Newsletter might notice that more detail is
provided on some timely issues than on the BDR site, itself. That is one
reason we encourage you to invite your friends to subscribe<www.theBDR.htm>. We are Opt-In
only... and we give you two promises (OK, four!):
(1) no inbox flooding - it is one-time-a-week, and
(2) we do not give out anyone's address.. ever.
(3) no cookies are placed on your computer.
(4) no Google ads are grafted onto your computer screen.
(Need to change your address? No problem. Or, what can we do to make the BDR more useful to you? Just reply and send us a note about what you like, or what you think is missing.)
