Greetings from your broadcast friends out on the Desert...
This is the BDR Newsletter 733, Volume 15, #5 for August 30, 2023

Here are some things you might want to know about:

THANK YOU
I know this might not be the best place to do this: but I have to say "thank you" to the large number of folks who heard of my mother's passing yesterday at 98, and offered condolences. I'm trying to thank folks individually, in case we miss, or email fails: seriously, my heartfelt thank you all.

Yes, the Newsletter is a bit thin today. Now you know why.

FROM FIRE TO WATER AND WIND
Last week it was Hawaii. This week Florida/Georgia/South Carolina are dealing with hurricane Idalia. As in Hawaii, this in another opportunity for emergency managers to consider what works and what doesn't in these situations - and for radio to assert its strengths in emergencies. But, will it?

At our last BDR Lunch Gathering we considered whether radio was up to the challenge - if indeed radio, as an industry *wants* to be a reliable, responsible source of news and information. This week, we will allocate time for additional thoughts but also to discuss the upcoming NPT (*not* National Periodic Test, according to the FCC), ensuring your station(s) readiness, and answering questions.

>From LPFM to full power stations, this is good information and we hope a lot of folks will not only check in, but invite colleagues to benefit. 2 PM Thursday, Eastern. The link is available at www.theBDR.net/TLG/<http://www.thebdr.net/TLG/> ... we will also be on youtube live.

DEADLINES
There are several important deadlines coming up;
        1. There will be a translator modification freeze starting September 1st, in preparation for the upcoming LPFM Window.

        2. All stations must verify their EAS information on Form One of the ETRS by September 15th.

        3. Regulatory fees must be paid by September 20th. The FCC fee <http://fccfees.com/> website<http://fccfees.com/> is now open, with what you need to know, including the fee amounts.

        4. October 1 is the "snapshot" day for the upcoming ownership reports.

        5. October 2 is when stations in AK, Fl, HI, IA, MO, OR, WA, PR, VI, Samoa, Guam, and Mariana Islands are to place their Annual EEO Public File Report in their Public Inspection File and post the report on their station website.

        6. The NPT will be on October 4th. This year, you have until October 5th to file Form Two.

        7. Q3 I&P will be due on October 10th.

PLEASE INVITE A FRIEND
We sure hope you are finding the BDR and the Newsletter to be of value to you. If so, there are two things that you can do to ensure the BDR keeps pulsing along:
        1. Invite a colleague or a friend to sign up for the Newsletter. Since it is only one-time-a-week, you will not be accused of flooding their in-boxes!
        2. Anytime you deal with one of our sponsors, letting them know the BDR is important to you will make them happy - and ready to keep on supporting the BDR.

TELL US WHAT'S WHAT
There are so many areas into which we would like to expand, but it is feedback from you that helps us decided where to go first. Are you interested in a certain piece of gear or technology? Let us know. Even better, would you be willing to do a user report and share your experience?

- - -

We sure do appreciate you spending time with our Newsletter. And even more so
when you recommend us to your colleagues and friends.

Now ... some extra stuff .. some important ... some just interesting.

MORE DETAIL HERE
Those you who read the Newsletter might notice that more detail is
provided on some timely issues than on the BDR site, itself. That is one
reason we encourage you to invite your friends to subscribe<https://lists.radiolists.net/mailman/listinfo/bdr>. We are Opt-In
only... and we give you two promises (OK, four!):
(1) no inbox flooding - it is one-time-a-week, and
(2) we do not give out anyone's address.. ever.
(3) no cookies are placed on your computer.
(4) no Google ads are grafted onto your computer screen.

(Need to change your address? No problem. Or, what can we do to make the BDR more useful to you? Just reply and send us a note about what you like, or what you think is missing.)
