We are in the final stages of testing a new version of RMS Relay that
supports the Winlink Hybrid Network. In a few weeks we will release this as
the production version and autoupdate all RMS that are running RMS Relay.
We would like to get as many RMS as possible to try it during the final test
period before release. About 45 RMS have been participating in the test for
the last 3 months.

The Winlink Hybrid Network is a new generation of the Winlink system. It
supports the traditional mode of operation where a client connects through
an RMS to reach a CMS, and it also supports passing messages by radio from
RMS to RMS. The radio-forwarding feature allows an RMS to continue
providing service if its Internet connection is down, and it allows it to
relay traffic for other RMS that are off the Internet. There are no
disadvantages to being part of the hybrid network; it just allows an RMS to
continue to operate without an Internet connection.

Here are the requirements to participate in the hybrid network:

· * The RMS must have a Pactor HF TNC. Note: The Pactor TNC is not
dedicated to forwarding traffic; it is also used to receive connections from
client stations. Client stations can connect to the RMS using any mode:
Pactor, Winmor, Robust Packet and packet.

· * Trimode must be used to control the TNC and radio.

· * The callsign of the RMS must not be longer than 6 characters,
and it must not have a SSID extension (i.e., “-nn”).

This document has a PowerPoint presentation explaining how the hybrid
network works:
