The latest issue of Harmonics had an excellent article by Al KD2ST about building a simple but effective wire antenna. Al broke down the cost of various pieces assuming someone had to buy many of the parts brand new. The single most expensive item on the list is the coax cable.
Well, I’ve been replacing a lot of cable at my station and have a couple chunks of RG-213U, which is UV protected, can be directly buried, and can easily handle full legal power. They ran from the bulkhead connectors at the top of the tower down to the remote antenna switch at the base. They were not connected to the antennas; no flexing from antenna rotations. Now, both pieces are about 16 years old but I did a loss analysis and found they were still quite good. Sorry, I forget the actual dB loss but it was pretty close to brand new cable at 30 MHz. PL-259s at both ends of both cables.
The part numbers indicate they are 85’ each.
The price? Free. Pick-up in Medford, or if you’re in the area I could even drop them off at your front step.
Email if interested.
