[SJRA-Members] What bands for my hex beam antenna?

John,
It comes down to capability. If you are going to do the work to install it, why do it again to add bands.
Conditions change all of time, if can afford it I would put on all the bands possible in the design. You won't regret it, especially when a rare DX pops up

Hi John and Joe,

As Joe can attest, I'm a neophyte on HF operating but thought if I was going to purchase a Hex beam what bands in addition to 20 would I add? 17 for sure as you can work a lot of the same DX as 20 on a less crowded and sometimes noisy band. I also picked 15 as a band that was just fun to operate a few years ago when I did some QRP operating on SSB with under 5 watts! Of course conditions were at a peak then and have been down now for a few years. I would also add 6M "The Magic Band" as possibly a new venture into the VHF world for you. It's called the magic band as it quite often opens this time of year thru January on single hop to the Midwest and Southern states and on double hop as far as the West Coast with very little power and antenna needed. Lots of fun to be had!

So, after all that I thought maybe I should wait for someone with more experience to answer your question. Hope this helps in your decision making process and good luck!
