Hello everyone

In this month's QST there is an article on a kit produced by Midnight Design Solutions https://midnightdesignsolutions.com/
(use ctrl click to access web site)
called the Phaser. The Phaser is a QRP tranceiver made specifically for FT8 operations. It is a single band tranceiver pre-tuned for the FT8 frquency of each band, 80, 60 40, 30, 20 and 17 meters. The kit has the surface mount components pre-soldered to the board so the components you have to install are through-hole. The kit requires some kit experience but is not super complicated. The kit with all required components is 55 dollars and a nice enclosure available for an additional 25 dollars. The output is 4 watts which is enough to work the world with FT8. I have ordered a 40 meter kit with enclosure. I plan to post my construction adventure on here and if anyone else orders a kit we can do it together as a group. The kit has stages of assembly where you use the board itself to test your progress. The instructions can be downloaded and there is a lot of support from a users group. You will need a soldering pen or soldering station and pick up a flush cut pair of nippers. You will be required to wind some torroids and if you have never done that it is not as difficult as it looks. The tranceiver can also be tuned to the PSK and other parts of the band if you want to work other digital modes. So go look at the web site and if you are going to order a kit do it soon as they do sell out. If you order new expect your kit in 3-4 weeks. There is great satisfaction in kit building and I plan to use a micro computer to operate mine portable when I have it together. So we will also put together an End Fed Half wave antenna and an el cheapo battery supply at the same time. Join in the fun!
