Hi SJRA Members
This weekend we have a favorite contest of many hams. The ARRL June VHF/UHF contest starts at 2PM Saturday, and ends Sunday nite at 11PM. With rule changes over the last few years this contest now offers more members an opportunity to make contacts with each other.
All modes can be used, yes AM, SSB, CW, FT8, PSK, etc AND FM. This is an excellent contest for first timers and those limited to 2 mtr and 70 cm FM. Paper logs can even be used. (attached). Or If you can, its best to use an electronic log such as the free N1MM+ contest logging software and upload to ARRL.
You can utilize spotting networks of all types AND even use the SJRA repeater to arrange, schedule contacts. You could even exclusively use simplex FM to make your contacts and file your results (just dont use the repeater to actually make or confirm the contact - you can set up or self spot on the repeater and then move to Simplex FM frequencies such as 146.535, 146.550 etc, same for 446.000. Also see below info regarding how to find Packrat members for additional opportunities to make contacts.
So turn on and monitor K2AA this weekend and split off from there to make contacts. Also recommend look for each other on 50.150 on Six meters, 144.260 on Two meters. These are the two frequencies that SJRA uses for monthly simplex nets. They would be Upper Side band or CW (Morse code)
For full rules see ARRL.org contest area. Exchange is just grid squares. For almost all members the grid square is FM29 or FN20. If you dont know yours, ask me and I'll be glad to let you know. It can also be found on ARRL under clubs eligible members.
Attached is updated contest listing
(Ken, K2WB provided the following info which will help us all to find more contacts - just dont sit on 144.160 and call CQ)
In order to work as many Packrats as possible, I'm asking all club members to congregate twice both on Saturday and Sunday for one half hour (or more if needed), on 144.160 to make contacts and run the bands. The times are 4:30 PM & 7:30 PM on Saturday, 2:00 PM & 7:30 PM on Sunday. The times are also listed on the new June Contest Clock. State your call as "listening" or if you're hear another station grab him, confirm contact and move to another frequency, run the bands and come back for another contact. Piggy-backing is acceptable. On this same frequency, with the help of Ken K2WB, on both evenings the "South Jersey Radio Association" members will join us on 144.160 SSB and 144.465 FM Simplex to work as many of us as possible.
And, join me please on Monday, June 15th for the next SJRA Monday night net on K2AA repeater 145.290 (Pl 91.5)
John, W2FDJ
