[SJRA-Members] Ongoing Vile Transmissions on 7.2 MHz LSB

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the dark side of amateur radio. With roughly 3/4 of a million hams in the U. S. , it is inevitable that our group represents a wide swath of or general population. Some of those people will hold views that are not consistent with generally accepted standards including good taste, decency, racial diversity, or even FCC law. 

The band of clowns on 7.200 is not the only such group on the HF bands. This frequency has long been famous for monopolizing that spot on the 40m band and guarding it like a pack of rabid jackals. The is/was a similar disgrace to amateur radio that convened regularly on 20m at 14.313. They could make you angry, sick, and almost ashamed to be associated with them as hams. There was a long running effort to curtail them. Some of them had even had their licenses revoked years ago by the FCC but persisted nonetheless. The ultimate process of levying fines and notices of forfeiture by the FCC can take years and wind up in legal hearings that drag on. 

I’ve never known of a case where any federal law enforcement entered a hams property and took equipment or put anyone under arrest. While annoying to us and a black mark on our hobby, the FCC, FBI, etc. do have more pressing issues to look after. 

If you tune around on 80m in the evening you can find similar bands of operators who are perhaps more than one standard deviation from accepted norms. 

Several years ago I was operating in the CQWW SSB contest from Costa Rica and started running on 7200. My partner, WB2REM reminded me I was asking for trouble. Since the frequency was clear, I had forgotten about the cesspool that gathers there often. They found me about 15 minutes later but were unable to dislodge me from the pileup I had going working stations in the US and Europe. I only had 100W and an inverted L antenna. I still think of this as a small moral victory. Jim told me later commended me for having the chutzpa and courage to stand my ground and ultimately persevere. 

I’m not recommending it as a strategy. 

I don’t have a solution to this problem and unfortunately even if they go away, more will crop up. 

There is a long history of other notable incursions and violations on the Ham bands and I’m sure many members have stories that they remember.
