John,
The Gloucester County Amateur Radio Club is having an SDR workshop on
January 11th at 9:00 a.m. and we have a few seats still available.
I you know of any SJRA members that may wish to attend, please have them
send an email to Jon Pearce WB2MNF and Jeffrey Welsh KD2AZI at the ARRL
email reflector. The location will be our clubhouse at the 4H fairgrounds
in Mullica Hill.
Thank you, and Happy Holidays.
Jeffrey KD2AZI
The January GCARC Tech Saturday event 1/11/20 9:00 a.m. will be a hands-on
dive into software defined radio using the familiar and low-cost RTL-SDR
radio receivers. We’ll be covering the use of these radios along with the
free SDR Sharp (SDR#) Windows software program to receive and decode
various radio signals. The RTL-SDR radio along with a dipole antenna
package is available for $29.95 from Amazon at this link<
https://www.amazon.com/RTL-SDR-Blog-RTL2832U-Software-Defined/dp/B011HVUEME/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2JAUX5QVRR1G1&keywords=rtl-sdr+v3&qid=1574220114&sprefix=rtl-sdr%2Caps%2C137&sr=8-3>.
We’ll be using “The Hobbyist's Guide to the RTL-SDR” as a text and
reference, which is available for $23.70 from Amazon at this link<
https://www.amazon.com/Hobbyists-Guide-RTL-SDR-Software-Defined-ebook/dp/B00KCDF1QI/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hobbyists+guide+to+rtl-sdr&qid=1574220232&sr=8-1>,
although a PDF version (which may be an older version of the book) is
available here<
https://www.surviveuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/The-Hobbyists-Guide-To-RTL-SDR-Carl-Laufer.pdf>.
Those who wish to participate in this session should purchase those items
(or perhaps arrange to receive them as a holiday gift) and download and
install the software (download link is here<https://airspy.com/download/>)
BEFORE the meeting. Come give this a try – it’s probably the cheapest way
to get into a whole new area of ham radio.
