Seems about the same. I have a modest antenna setup. Create Log Periodic 6m - 1296mhz. Transmitters 6m, 2m, 223 (FM only), 432. Low power category. 85Qs and 19 grids so far. Mostly SSB.
Lots of guys run the bands, it can be frustrating trying to get their attention. Get your antenna aligned first, get their call and grid from when they work another station. Try tailgating and pounce the second they are about to leave. If your timings right, and your clear and concise, they sometimes delay another 30 seconds to work you. Sometimes they will wait for you, sometimes they won't.
Should be easier to get their attention today, as contest goes on they need fresh meat.

Subject: [SJRA-Members] JANUARY VHF CONTEST TRAFFIC?
Hello All,
Just a quick survey about January VHF contest.
Is anyone participating in the Jan VHF contest this year and if so, have you heard much activity and/or made any/some contacts. I have been periodically scanning 2M and 70cm and have heard essentially no activity on SSB phone at all except for two participants who were jumping bands to which I could not follow and that was it. It seems uncharacteristically quiet this year compared to my records from previous years. I know my radio/antenna is performing because I can hear FM repeater QSOs of various stations with very strong signals.
I'm beginning to think the great warm weather this weekend is driving folks outdoors and away from the shack.
Any feedback from participating contesters would be helpful.
Mark - KD2JPW
