[SJRA-Members] Attention CW Operators and train enthusiasts we got a request for help! (and it could be fun!!)

Railroad telegraph used a different method of sending and receiving Morse
Code.
The copying operator listened to the spaces between the clacks of the
"sounder". This was the electromagnet that would close when the operator at
the other end closed his key. There were no tones as we use in radio so
there was on on/off, start and finish like hams use. In fact, the original
code eventually became known as the American Morse Code and several of the
letters and numbers were much different. It also used long spaces and long
dashes within characters. A feature that is missing in the International
Morse Code we use on the radio today. American Morse also used a 2:1 ratio
of dash to dot and not the 3:1 ratio International Morse uses.
A brief history:

If a ham did operate a telegraph at an historic railroad site, his or her
sending would probably not be authentic but most people wouldn't know the
difference. On the other hand, some railroad buffs can be sticklers for
accuracy.

Subject: Question from SJRA home page
I am contacting you to see if your club would be able to have several
members come to the Glassboro Train Station when we have one of our monthly
open house dates to operate our in house telegraph system. The system is
set up to communicate between two rooms in the station for education and
display.
The station is open on the fourth weekend of every month form 1-4 pm.
