The 20 meter band will be closed for maintenance today. Because of heavy usage during the recent contest season, certain segments of the band have been sagging under the load, and those wavelengths have started to stretch from the weight. These will be tightened up. The 40 and 80 meter bands will also be closed for maintenance to find and remove some of the debris left behind by QSO disruptors using foul language.
Dick Gaul - K2GMY, an avid contester, has noticed that the space between LSB (lower sideband) and USB (upper sideband) is not being utilized. He has developed a mode called MSB (middle sideband). That will also be tested on these bands today only. If you hear him, he will send you a special QSL card. If you hear him testing on all three bands, he will send you a free commemorative QSL cup. A signal from an unknown location is being investigated, and your help is requested. It can be heard on 4.1.2018 in the US, and on 1.4.2018 in Europe. Please report on this forum anything you learn during this 24 hour band maintenance, MSB testing, and strange signal event period.
Not related to this URGENT BULLETIN, but a worthy effort, would be for all stations running a kilowatt or more to whisper during DX pileups to give the QRP'ers a chance to work the rare stations.
