RTS software and cable for the V8 is $49; I'm assuming that free is preferable. Unfortunately, that won’t be easy.
I've run across two downloads on Spanish-language sites (http://www.radioaficion.com/hamfiles/viewdownload/31-icom-software/1660-ic-v8-programming-software and http://electronica.yoreparo.com/radiocomunicaciones/software-programacion-icom-ic-v8-t394845.html). Both sites look like they may be legitimate ham sites, but what you’d get is anyone’s guess – maybe pirated software, maybe something in Spanish, maybe spyware. If you are confident about your antivirus software, you might want want to give one or both a try. There is also similar software at sites hosted in Russia and Estonia, both hacking hotbeds that I personally would stay away from. There is a free program called CHIRP which programs a lot of the Chinese ratios and some name-brand Japanese, but definitely not the V8, unfortunately.
You can get an OPC-478 cable (three-conductor 3.5mm plug goes into earphone jack) for $14 on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Programming-OPC-478-OPC478-Alinco-Transceiver/dp/B0092D3E8Q/ref=pd_sbs_107_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=8M7XHVVJY0AES5YYTRPX). The OEM cable contains a chipset made by Prolific; the cheap Chinese cables on Amazon often have fake Prolific chips and will not work with RTS software (assuming you can borrow it from someone) and may or may not be plug-and-play on Windows though this one gets generally good reviews. At worst, you’re out the postage to send it back to Amazon.
If all else fails, programming instructions are in the manual (http://(www.icomamerica.com/EN/downloads/DownloadDocument.aspx?Document=145))
and K6LCS has put together a one-page programming cheat sheet at https://www.ke4rx.org/cheatsheet/Icom/IC-V8.pdf. Good luck.

Hello everyone (again),
I'm sorry for bothering the entire group. I recently got a used Icom V8 radio and programming it is a little hard. The LCD screen is badly damaged which is fine since I got it for a great price. I was wondering if anyone had software for it and/ or someone could either program it for me or lend me the programming cable. Thank you very much.
Also, whoever it used to belong to... thank you!
