Frank & Roy,

Ken was a regular participant of the SJRA 2-Meter (AM) nets. Apparently, in the 1960's and '70's, Ken may have been working with the TV broadcast group at RCA. The Alford Slot antenna design was popular and promoted by RCA during that period. The slot antenna was sold by RCA to FM radio and television broadcasters. I remember when Ken was encouraging anyone in the SJRA to incorporate the design by cutting a slot in the roof of their automobile!! I can remember him pleading for weeks and weeks for someone to give it a try and that he would then proceed to finalize the installation by providing assistance with the feedpoint and transmission line!! As far as I know, he had no takers!! I often wondered why Ken didn't cut the antenna into his own car roof, Hi, hi, hi!!

I also remember Ken's technical experimenting with homebrew VHF equipment. I remember the grossly distorted 2 meter audio from the transmitter that he used weekly on the nets. His audio resembled the sound of a SSB signal affected by Aurora!! He stubbornly and relentlessly continued to operate that rig for years!! We all held the highest respect for Ken, his homebrewing skills, his adventurous technical spirit, and his tenacious participation at board meetings. Above all, Ken was a loyal, dedicated SJRA member and administrator.

Thanks for kindling some good memories, Frank and Roy!!

Ken's original call was K2AGU. By 1970, and perhaps earlier, he was W2KF. Ken was very active on HF and VHF (he ran a KW on 2m on AM). In those days, one had to build most VHF/UHF equipment beyond Heathkit lunch boxes, Clegg transceivers and a few other things.

Ken lived in Cherry Hill.

Ken was a long time SJRA member and, as Roy noted, Ken was the K2AA trustee.

Ken was a very skilled RF engineer at RCA. When I was SJRA President in 1985, I asked Ken to be the Program Chairman. With his connections, he got us some great programs.

I believe Ken was SJRA Vice President at some point, and on the Board other times, but he was not particularly interested in being President.

Good luck with the 100th Anniversary Celebration and good luck at Field Day.
I will be looking for K2AA on the bands.
I would be there, but it's a long drive from Texas.
