I am delighted that Cory Sickles, WA3UVV, will join us at our next meeting
to present a program on digital voice advantages and possibilities. Cory
stepped in to volunteer to make this presentation at our August meeting
when Dennis had a family emergency that demanded his time. Corey's brief
bio and an outline of his program follows. Hope you can join us for this
informative presentation.

Cory Sickles, WA3UVV – Speaker
Cory started experimenting with electronics before he entered
kindergarten. He became a ham in 1973 and like many Novices of the time,
built his first transmitter, while waiting for his license to arrive.
Today, he still enjoys working with tubes, but spends most of his time with
more state of the art circuitry.
Cory owns a television and video production company and takes ham radio
along when he travels on business. Cory has authored a number of articles
for CQ and has written 2 monthly columns – “Off the Air” and Personal
Communications” - for several years. Cory also writes a bi-monthly column
– “Digitally Speaking” – for another magazine, The Spectrum Monitor.
Program Outline – The Advantages of Digital Voice
Amateur Radio is an ever-changing landscape of technology and horizons.
Our VHF and UHF allocations – once the land of AM voice communications –
gave way to an explosion of FM activity, spurred by an abundance of surplus
LMR equipment. Eventually, the surplus gear gave way to a rise of new
equipment – designed specifically for amateur radio.
Today, we see a similar evolution as digital voice casts a shadow over FM.
Currently, there are 5 methodologies available to hams – DMR, D-STAR, NXDN,
P25 and System Fusion. Learn more about exploring and having fun with
these at the August meeting. Plus learn how you can immediately take
advantage of the digital capabilities on the 145.29 repeater.
