He has a

Daiwa Ps 304 13.8 Volt power supply. Lists at 24amp (30 amp surge) so he should be OK.

All,

The TS120 is not equipped with an inboard power supply. Rachid likely uses a Kenwood PS30 "matching" power supply for the transceiver. Do we know whether he uses a PS30 or some "after market" supply such as an Astron?

The new Yaesu (or Icom) will require 12VDC. Will he be able to get a new rig running with his existing power supply? Can we determine whether his "dead" TS120 is due to a fault in the radio or a problem isolated to his power supply?

My thoughts are that we're not helping him by sending a shiny new radio if he has no way to supply power to it!

I am onboard to contribute to the funding. Bob, can you determine Rachid's power supply status?

SJDXA members,

I have been the QSL manager for Rachid Karoo 3B8FP for many years. Last year Rachid’s radio died. It was a TS120 believe it or not. He tried to repair it with parts that he bought on eBay with no luck. He was unable to find anything locally. He asked me a couple months ago if I had a spare used radio. I really didn’t have anything appropriate to ship. So, I asked DX Engineering if they could give me a price on an ic7300. I just asked for a fair price. They reached back to me with a price for the ic7300 but also recommended a Yaesu FT-710 Field. It was cheaper and it has a better receiver (per Sherwood). The price quoted for the FT710 is approximately $1150 includes shipping to Mauritius as well as a shielded USB cable.

If any of you might like to help me cover this cost, I’m passing the hat around.  You can send as a friend/family to my PayPal

I am NOT publicizing this. I am keeping it among my friends and my local club members.

Thanks in advance.
