Sorry to hear. Hope it turns out well for him.

He’s lucky an optometrist picked it up. They are not medical doctors. If you have a serious concern about your vision or any eye issues my advice is to always visit an ophthalmologist who are medical doctors specializing in the eye and attend medical school, a 1 year internship, 3 years of residency, and possibly a fellowship of 1-2 years. Optometrist also have a post graduate education in optometry that is usually 4 years.

A friend of mine Gary, K2ACY from Brigantine, posted on his FB page the following:
He was seeing flashing from one eye and went to Horizon Eye in Manahawkin in July. The doctor said he does not see anything out of the normal.
6 months later he goes to a local Optometrist. After an exam the doctor said go right now  to Wills Eye hospital ER in Philadelphia. At Wills Eye they found an eye tumor that was removed and tested as melanoma.
Please keep Gary in your thoughts.
Lessons learned, always get a second opinion if you still have a medical problem that  is still there with no answer of why.
