K5RC has received a description, via K5WA, of yesterday's tragic accident:Via Tom, K5RC: From K5WA:
"Richard came to help Jim George, N3BB, remove antennas today as Jim transitions out of big-time contesting. As we were lowering an old Telrex 3 element 40, an element got hung on a guy wire with the antenna only 5 feet off the ground. Richard jumped in to help orient the antenna correctly so we could get it to the ground but an element tip at the opposite end of the beam touched a 14KV power line just off N3BB’s property. Richard took the surge to ground and fell immediately. CPR was started within 2 minutes by the nurse attending N3BB’s wife and a second nurse arrived to continue CPR until the EMS ambulance arrived within 15 minutes. We thought Richard was breathing and coughing as he entered the ambulance but died on the trip to the hospital or shortly after arrival."73 Bill n6zfo
