SJDXA members,

Last night was fun, and a surprise for me.

I had dozed off in my “recovery” recliner and got up around 1:30 AM local time. I had left the radio on 15 meters from earlier. I quickly discovered YE1DO calling CQ and he was definitely strong on long path (due south here). One call and he came back swapping -3 reports. I then peeked at DX Summit and found that VK9CVG (Cocos Keeling) was on 21.091 F/H. I went there and sure enough. There he was with 3 streams running around a zero. I set up F/H and called him. He came back after one or two calls giving me +10 and I gave him a +04. Wow. Quite a surprise for sure. I saw several other YB’s and a VK on the regular FT8 freq. I called a few times but no quick replies. Guessing they were beaming short path to JA or something. After this, I went to 20 meters and found VK9DX on Norfolk Island and FW1JG on Wallis/Futuna short path as well as a few ZL’s. Easy quick QSO’s. Then by 2:15 AM it was time to get back to sleeping. 😊 I have no idea how long the bands stayed open after that.

Anyone needing any of these or perhaps others that could come through from those areas might take a listen if you’re up and about in the evening. My guess is that the bands were open earlier than 1AM.
