SJDXA members,

We forgot to bring up something last night.

QSL.NET has asked for contributions.

SJDXA's EMAIL discussion list is hosted by QSL.NET (also QTH.NET).

 

Here is an overview of what QSL.NET provides, all at no cost:

 

QSL.net was started in 1996 by Al Waller K3TKJ and run continuously until Al
retired at the end of 2008.

In early January 2009, Scott Neader KA9FOX stepped forward to keep the
service going. All QSL.net services were then moved to new hardware located
at a large US data center.

Today, QSL.net hosts over 31,000 web sites... over 54,000 e-mail forwarding
accounts... over 600 mailing lists... and provides bandwidth and hardware
for N6RT's DX Services (including log searches for over 20 million QSOs) at
DX.QSL.NET.

This is all done at NO COST to amateur radio operators and organizations,
although  <https://admin.qsl.net/index.php?r=site/donate> donations are
encouraged and very much appreciated.

 

 

In December, Scott KA9FOX sent out the following:

We hope you are enjoying the services we provide, such as free Web Hosting,
Email Forwarding, Mailman Mailing Lists and DX Log Search.

 

WE NEED YOUR FINANCIAL HELP:

 

It's been about THREE YEARS since our last system-wide email to users,
asking for support. We know that many of you have been financially affected
by COVID-19, so we made the decision not to ask for support until now.

 

We continue to see growth in bandwidth, CPU and especially disk space usage.
This has driven a decision to migrate all QSL.net services to a brand new
server with enough resources to accommodate the needs of users.

The new server is being provisioned and tested, with a goal of being live
within the next 1-2 months.

 

Your financial support also allows us to keep offering free business-class
spam filtering for our QSL.net Email Forwarding users. The spam filtering
system has been very successful and has dramatically decreasing the amount
of spam seen by our users.

 

QSL.NET EXISTS SOLELY ON YOUR DONATIONS!

 

For over two decades, QSL.net has been dedicated to the sole purpose of
furthering the abilities and interests of the Amateur Radio Community, with
free Internet services for hams. QSL.net now needs to ask you for something
in return: Your financial support.

 

In addition to the costs for data center bandwidth and hardware, and
subscription fees for our professional spam filtering system, we also have
hundreds of hours of time involved in answering support tickets, programming
and maintaining the Self-Help and Ticket systems, troubleshooting various
web, email, mailing list and FTP issues, etc.

I suggest that SJDXA contribute $25 to QSL.NET. I have asked Bob W2ARP to go
ahead and make the contribution. If anyone has any issues, please let me

Meanwhile, I suggest taking a look at their website at www.qsl.net
<http://www.qsl.net>  and see what they are doing. All members are asked to
consider a small contribution. This is a very worthwhile effort by Scott.
