Today, I went to the site to drop off a couple of coffee mugs from Arnie’s that were passed along to us. Also, I brought back the SJDXA KPA500 that I had borrowed to do a firmware update while I had it. I had only expected to be at the site briefly.
Joel was at the site with Bob Wick. Unfortunately the rotor on our TA33 stopped working. Apparently the brake wires were showing as open. After a short hunt for our backup Tailtwister, HM decided that with good weather and minimal insect issues today was the day to swap out the rotor. I would like to report that a complete rotor replacement was successfully completed by HM doing the tower work with myself and Joel KS3F as ground support. The new rotor has a waterproof connector installed (TNX Danny) which should make any future maintenance issues easier to resolve. We will ask Danny W2NO to refurbish the old rotor so that we can put it in storage as a backup. While up the tower, Bob also aligned the rotor direction and dressed the coax and rotor cable down the tower. Our TA33 seems to be in need of adjustment some time in the future. 20 meters looks great. However 15 meters runs around 2:1 SWR while resonance on 10 meters was around 28.800 MHz. We will run a band scan to figure out where it is resonant on each band at some point in the future.
All in all, my expected brief visit became about a 5 hour work project.
Now you’re all up to date.
Zzzzz
