I want to thank everyone that replied to my query about my 746pro problem. The yaesu repair place in Michigan told me it was probably either the final amplifier or the bias gone bad. However, they don’t support it anymore due to inability to get parts. So it has been boxed up for study at a later date. 

I am now the owner of a new FTDX10. I looked at but couldn’t justify the cost of the “big boy rigs “ due to our budget. So got the 10 and a new Heil 7 headphone set. Playing with them in the CQWW barefoot because I need modern cabling for this rig. Things sure have changed in the 14 years since I bought a new xcvr.
