SJDXA members,
Last week Beth and I escaped for several days to the Lancaster area. It was
Beth's week off from pre-school! It was a welcome diversion for both of us.
I think we might be running out of time to accomplish much with our project,
but we really should get something done.
Jeff N2SQA suggested that we use flexible irrigation pvc pipe for our coax
and rotor cable runs. He found a price of $108 for a 250' roll from a supply
house.
I think this would work well.
Digging a trench might be a little easier than originally thought. Not only
would this pipe provide a continuous run that both wires SHOULD push right
through, but we could more easily route the pipe "off" the paths where they
would not necessarily need to be buried. They really only need to be buried
wherever they would cross an open area or path. As long as this is OK with
HM.
I am beginning to think that at the very least, we could get this PVC and
prepare our coax and rotor cable runs to the two towers before winter sets
in.
If we do not get to putting up the 15 meter beam, we should probably take it
down from leaning in the tree and partially disassemble it and store it
someplace safe. Just take the elements off the boom.
If we can get ALL of our hardware prepared now, we should be more ready for
a Spring antenna raising project.
Things that we can do over the rest of the Fall and the winter are selecting
and testing our rotors. We may need some U Bolts for mounting as I recall
that some may have been missing on the lower mast mounts.. Acquire and
prepare boxes similar to what is on the HM shed to mount on each tower where
we could terminate our coax and rotor cables in a weather proof box to ease
future maintenance and testing.
As you know, we now have all coax and rotor cable stored.
I am looking at the weather for this week. It looks like the best weather
day so far would be this Friday?
(Tuesday says rain/snow, Wednesday a high of 35 degrees, Thursday is no good
for me, doc appt., so Friday looks like a high of 55 and partly sunny??)
Can I have a roll call of who might be able to come to the site on Friday
around 9:30 AM?
See ya' in the Pileups!
73!
