Update
Jim K2GMT, Paul N2HYG and I met at the site this morning and assembled the 15 meter beam. It is all there. However it needs new hardware and plastics.
I ordered a few stainless muffler clamps and figure out which sizes are correct. We need 6 of what we think are 1 1/2” and 7 of what we think are 2” from Amazon. I’m going to try these muffler clamps mainly because they are less than half the price of the ones on DX Engineering. One of the 2” clamps at DX Engineering was over $15. We’ll see.
We will also pick up enough 3/8” polypropylene rope to put inside each element. This was per the original design as I remember it and the reason is to dampen vibration that can weaken the aluminum tubing.
We also needed 2 boom end caps and 6 element end caps. I ordered from DX Engineering.
We also measured the elements and if our calculations are correct, they were all set too long. We will adjust appropriately.
We inspected the 4 towers and decided to install the antenna on the Northeast tower (one closest to the WYRS tower). We will reuse the current coax feed used for the 80 meter inverted v for the beam, and run new coax (something like RG213) to the 80 meter ant from the rear coax junction box.
We will have to measure, and purchase appropriate rotor cable and add 2 extra heavier gauge wire for the brake in order to offset the voltage drop we will have since the rotor cable run will probably be around 350 feet.
Our next planned visit to the site is next Wednesday morning at 10 AM. But we will watch the weather.
