If your computer has locked up during a contest or your computer has lost communications with your MicroHam or other modem, this maybe your solution.  
 
Replacing all standard USB cables with TRIPP-LITE Model U023-006 USB cables. The are available on Amazon or many of the usually supply houses.  

 These cables are double-shielded with tinned copper braid and aluminum mylar foil, have ferrite chokes at each end, and twisted 28AWG data lines, and 24AWG power lines.
